Leo Mancini-Hresko Materials Workshop

Leo Mancini-Hresko

Materials Workshop

"There really aren't a lot of opportunities to learn about this stuff these days.  Pervasive marketing has made many artists oblivious to the difference between safflower and linseed oil, unaware of the difference between acrylic and traditional gesso, and just plain confused when they are shopping in stores or online." - Leo

Come spend two whirlwind days talking about materials from every angle.  We will all grind paint and speak at length about paint history and theology.  Gesso panels and oil primed linen will be discussed and made as a group.
**Please note the price of this course includes the materials you will be making and bringing home with you.

What to Expect:

  • Lectures each morning
  • Hands on paint grinding as a group, and every student will go home with a tube of handground paint
  • After extensive discussion on our supports, we will talk through the advantages of Rabbit Skin Glue, PVA Size and shellacs and varnishes
  • We will make gesso panels - from start to an eggshell finish
  • Each student will take home a linen oil ground canvas

Leo will also be setting up a permanent designated space at our studio for material creation. Students who take this workshop will be granted year-round access to this space. This workshop acts as a "certification" that will allow you to use the space at your leisure - an opportunity otherwise unavailable to our students.
